How to Create and Track Consignors

How to Create and Track Consignors

All Consignor accounts in Visceral Consignment are automatically created through the products in your Shopify store. To create a consignor account, simply assign their name or identifier to a product using your chosen tracking method.

Visceral Consignment gives you two flexible ways to track which consignor each product belongs to: Vendor Name or Product Tags.

How to Set Your Tracking Method

Before you start linking products to consignors, you’ll need to choose how Visceral Consignment tracks them. The app supports two methods:

  • Vendor Name

  • Product Tag (with a customizable prefix)

You can set or change your tracking method at any time. When you switch methods, all products and unpaid orders will be automatically updated to reflect the consignor linked under the new tracking method. This helps keep your payout data accurate.

📌 To set your tracking method:

  1. Open the Visceral Consignment app.

  2. Go to Settings > Commissions > Tracking.

  3. Under Tracking Method, choose:

    • Vendor Name, or

    • Product Tag

  4. If using Product Tags, determine your Tag Prefix (e.g., consignor_).

  5. Click Save.

Note: Only products using the selected method will be tracked in the app.

Once your method is set, follow the instructions below to begin tracking your consigned products accordingly.

Track by Vendor Name

This method uses the built-in Shopify vendor field.

✅ Best if:

  • You already assign each consignor a unique vendor name in Shopify

  • You want to avoid adding extra tags to your products

📌 To use this method:

  1. In Shopify, go to Products > select a product.

  2. In the Vendor field, enter the consignor’s name or identifier.

  3. Save the product.

Once saved, Visceral Consignment will automatically:

  • Create a consignor account (if it doesn’t already exist)

  • Link the product to that consignor

Important: The vendor name must exactly match across all products for the same consignor.

Track by Product Tag

This method uses product tags to identify consignors.

✅ Best if:

  • You use the vendor field for another purpose

  • You have both consigned and non-consigned products (provides more flexibility in determining which products track over to the app)

📌 To use this method:

  1. Set your tag prefix
In the Visceral Consignment app, go to:
    Settings > Commissions > Tracking

  2. Determine the Product Tag Prefix (e.g., consignor_). This is what the app will use to identify consigned products.

  3. Tag your products in Shopify

    • In your Shopify admin, go to Products, then select a consigned product.

    • In the Tags field, add a tag using your prefix followed by the consignor’s name or identifier.

      • Example: consignor_Jane Doe

  4. Save the product.

Once saved, Visceral Consignment will automatically:

  • Create a consignor account (if it doesn’t already exist)

  • Link the product to that consignor

Important: Only products with correctly formatted tags (using the prefix set in your app) will be tracked.

Set Your Tracking Start Date

To ensure accurate commission tracking, you can specify the date when Visceral Consignment begins tracking orders for your tagged products. This tells the app when to start awarding commissions.

📌 To set your tracking start date:

  1. Open the Visceral Consignment app.

  2. Go to Settings > Commissions > Tracking.

  3. Find the Tracking Start Date field.

  4. Select the date from which you want the app to begin tracking orders and awarding commissions.

  5. Click Save.

Note:

  • Orders placed before this date will not be tracked for commissions.

  • If this field is not set, all orders from your Shopify account will track over to the app and award commissions.
